"How could such sweet and wholesome hours be reckoned, but in herbs and flowers?"
Today, April 17th, is Herbalist Day and it’s the perfect opportunity to create a hanging floral cone for you or the herbalist in your life.
These hanging floral cones only take a few minutes to make and can simply be hung on a doorknob. Giving as a gift? Add a sweet note, like "Bloom where you are planted."
What You Need:
12”x12” sheet of paper, cut in half diagonally (makes 2 cones) or cone shaped (or other shaped) basket
Tape or glue
Scissors
Marker
Hole punch
Ribbon (color of your choice)
Fresh flowers
Moist paper towel to keep the flowers fresh (optional)
Directions:
Make your paper cone according to the instructions in this video.
You can leave the cones blank or write a message on the front.
Fill each one with 3-6 flowers or herbs of your choice. Give your floral cones an herbal hue by incorporating rosemary sprigs or herbs that may be peeking up in an early spring garden, like hardy thyme or wispy yarrow. The possibilities are endless! Remember to ethically harvest your own violets, tulips, daffodils, or other harbingers of spring.
If your floral cone will be hanging on a doorknob for a few hours or more, then consider wrapping the flowers’ stems in a slightly moist paper towel to preserve their vitality. Be careful not to get it too wet, though, otherwise it could soak through the paper cone.
These Hanging Floral Cones are sure to bring a spark of joy to your local herbal friends. Plus, you’ll have a great time working with seasonal blooms and sharing your appreciation with your mentors, friends, and guides.
